Drum Song
(size 31″X 45.5″) The background in pieced hand dyed fabric that was stenciled with Paint Stik over the “music” before it was assembled. Most of the drummer’s material is also hand dyed and stenciled with Paint Stik to create dimension. After assembling the background was quilted on a mid-arm quilting machine while the image was done on a Bernina using free motion stitching.
Updraft
(size 34.5/38″ x 50″) I live across the road from a hay field that offers a never ending selections of images and textures. This time I decided to focus on the expanse of green with varied rows of equipment that cares for it. After the hay is cut the birds come swooping down, from miles around, to glean the stray seeds and bugs. It is a wonderful sight.
Dance of the Moons
(size 42″ x 26″) After dying the background fabric multiple colors, I added a layer of texture using gutter cover and Paint Stik, then added other objects to the rubbing. I loved the final results so much that I couldn’t cut it up so it hung (literally) around the studio for a couple of years. I was so excited when I found an image to compliment but not over power it. The women’s dress is a combination of shibori dyed kimono silk and dark organza.
Heralding Spring
(size 31″ x 23″) Spring fruit tree blossoms popping out so early singing of hot weather and the fruit to come. By pushing the colors, separating them and highlighting them with black I wanted them to sing louder.
Asya-Asya-Asya
(size 14″x27″) Asya is a friend of mine who is a very courageous person. I love her spirit and ability to overcome adversity. These photos were taken of her at the food bank where we both volunteer.
