Based on part of a photo by Pepe Ulecia , I heightened the colors for a more magical impression and created it using fused fabric applique and machine stitching.
Wilted Wild Sunflowers

These wild sunflowers aren’t like their cousins the tall stately stalks with the dinner plate size flowers on top. Rather they are about 3 foot tall branch unruly bushes with 5 inch flowers heading every which way. They grow in forgotten lands next to my property. I find them quite whimsical.
This piece is made with fused fabric, thread and oil paint stick accents.

A Faraway Place

based on a photo by Pepe Ulecia that was redrawn to simplify the image quite a lot. The sky area is hand dyed fabric that is torn into pieces and fused and stitched. The buildings in the back are fused fabric that is stitched while the buildings in the foreground are done with machine stitching and accented with either oil PaintStik or oil pastels.
I wanted to create the feeling of a town that could be anywhere in a distant part of the world. Somewhere not quite real.
Portrait of Winnie Krage

This is a friend of mine. I was originally friends with her daughter Sandy, who died a few years ago and now with her other daughter Winnie Lou, who is caring for mom, who is 102. Mom has taken me in as a daughter also which feels so warm and loving. She always wants to see my newest artwork when I go visit. I asked if I could do a portrait of her and took numerous pictures. This piece was the result of 2 images.
Because the finished art is small, I couldn’t applique her face. Instead I colored over a photograph then printed it on fabric which I fused and stitched into the appliqued piece. The background fabric is hand designed by Sandy which gives that piece added meaning
Aging

Twilight

This is based on a sun/moon art piece that is attached to a wire trellis on my patio. The sun sets behind it creating a beautiful background of colors to silhouette the piece. The background is hand painted with diluted acrylic paint with the silhouetted foreground added.
Walking in the Flower Garden

Flowers in abundance in this garden. Made with my hand dyed fabrics and oil PaintStik added to extenuate the magenta flower petals.
Young Man in a Fedora

This is a personal piece as the photograph was taken by my son-in-law Pepe Ulecia of his son Rafa Ulecia Gutierrez Miller. He’d dressed him up in Pepe’s fedora, tweed coat and sunglasses for the shot. I decided to create it in fabric using wools for the clothing. I gave it to Rafa for his 14th Birthday. I am sure that someday he will appreciate it more than he does now.

Traveling Woman

This little brat and beer cafe’ is right on the bank of the Danube river at Regensberg Germany. It has been in business for hundreds of years and every time the Danube overflows the restaurant floods. Along the right outer was are plaques that commemorate the hight of each flood. People come to see the commemerations.
